École de conduite l’envol is the best place to complete your training. We do everything we can to help you develop the driving skills you need to hit the road with confidence.

This course is offered to new drivers and applies to the Road Safety Education Program of the Quebec Automobile Insurance Company (SAAQ). Taking a driving course is mandatory to obtain a class 5 license (passenger vehicle).

The program has four learning phases totalling 39 hours of training, i.e. 24 hours of theoretical lessons (module 1 to 12) and 15 hours of practical lessons (classes 1 to 15).

The training must last a minimum period of 12 months.

Obtain Your License

Phase 1
Prerequisite for a learner's license

This phase includes:

4 theoretical modules on the following subjects: the vehicle, the driver, the environment, and risky behaviour.

1 module devoted to a brief review of the learning of the 4 previous modules and to a theoretical assessment (in the form of a questionnaire provided by the SAAQ, available on the WEB).

Duration:

  • 10 hours in class (5 modules of 2 hours each)
  • Phase 1 must be spread over a minimum of 1 month.

At the end of this phase, and after having passed a theoretical exam in class, the student goes to the SAAQ office to obtain their learner’s license. This license authorizes them to drive but the student must be accompanied by a person who has held a regular license for 2 years. The learner’s license is only valid for the province of Quebec.

Documents required to obtain a learner’s license:

  • The original certificate (a copy will be refused by the SAAQ);
  • The original birth certificate issued after 1994 from the Registrar of Civil Status of Quebec (Directeur de l’état civil du Québec);
  • Your health insurance card;
  • The written consent of the father or mother if you are under 18.

Phase 2
Assisted driving

This phase includes:

2 theoretical modules on the following subjects: accompanied driving and AEO strategy.

4 outings on the road allowing initiation to the road network.

Duration:

  • 4 hours in class (2 modules of 2 hours each)
  • 4 outings on the road (4 outings of 55 minutes each)
  • Phase 2 must be spread over a minimum of 1 month.

The student can begin driving with a passenger, but it is recommended that their first four road trips be with a school instructor.

Phase 3
Semi-assisted driving

This phase includes:

3 theoretical modules on the following subjects: speed, sharing the road, alcohol and drugs.

6 outings on the road to learn about the road network.

Duration:

  • 6 hours in class (3 modules of 2 hours each)
  • 6 road trips (6 trips of 55 minutes each)

Phase 3 must be spread over a minimum of 2 months.

Phase 4
Semi-assisted Driving To Autonomous

This phase includes:

2 theoretical modules on the following topics: fatigue, distractions and eco-driving.

5 outings on the road to improve learning about the road network, including a summary before the practical exam.

Duration:

  • 4 hours in class (2 modules of 2 hours each)
  • 5 road trips (5 trips of 55 minutes each)

Phase 4 must be spread over 2 to 3 months minimum.

Refresher courses

Further Education Courses
We offer advanced driving courses according to your needs and availability.

Refresher courses are for anyone who wants to improve their driving skills or who don’t feel completely comfortable behind the wheel of a car. They can be useful both for beginners who want to practice more with a specialist and for the driver who wants to gain more confidence behind the wheel.

Lessons include many outings on the road for the most realistic experience. The instructor adapts the exercises to the needs of the students – mastering parking, driving on highways or in the city center, reducing stress, updating knowledge, etc.

Number of lessons: 1, 5, 10 or 15 lessons (optional and according to needs)

Duration of a lesson: 55 minutes

Prerequisite: valid driver’s license (learner’s license and probationary license are accepted).

Examens de la SAAQ

Theoretical examination

10 months after obtaining the learner’s license, the apprentice who has completed all the theoretical training given at the driving school (phases 2, 3 and 4) can go to an SAAQ service center to sit the theory test.

Necessary documents:

  • The identification card with photo issued by the SAAQ;
  • The learner’s license.

Practical exam

12 months after obtaining the learner’s license, the apprentice who has passed the SAAQ theoretical exam and obtained his or her certificate proving that they have passed the driving course can go to an SAAQ service center to take the practical exam.

Passing the exam will be easy as long as the student has shown interest in their learning. We encourage you to be prepared for the test and to manage your stress.

Necessary documents:

  • The original certificate proving the student has successfully completed the driving course (theory and practice);
  • The identification card with photo issued by the SAAQ;
  • The learner’s license;
  • Written consent from the father, mother or legal guardian if you are under 18;
  • Your health insurance card;
  • Glasses or contact lenses if needed;
  • A car complying with the regulations;
  • A valid registration certificate signed by the owner of the vehicle;
  • Valid proof of vehicle insurance.
